Jar is a modern chophouse and Los Angeles institution on Beverly blvd. Helmed by chef Suzanne Tracht, the menu of prime aged meats, seasonal salads, and updated steakhouse sides means you can curate your plate with roasted wild king salmon, onion rings, and duck fried rice, or a prime Kansas City steak with creamed spinach and their french fries.

When news spread that the signature lychee martini had fallen off the menu, droves of Hags (Poog Podcast’s listenership) began showing up and requesting the Lychee Martini, until Jar restored the drink to the menu. Kate says it tastes like an angel’s bathwater and she has a point: lychee juice shaken with ice cold vodka makes for a transparent pink cocktail with a subtle aromatic sweetness that goes down smooth.

Peeled fresh lychees are whizzed into a rich puree and blended with Femminello lemons, or as Chef Tracht recounts “Italian Nipple lemons”. They’re more intensely lemony than some domestic varieties – and long strips of zest steep in the blend of juice and puree. The resulting flavor is light, bright, and subtly perfumed with tropical floral sweetness.
