My own words. This is what the first draft of my book looks like. Writing it has been hard work but also hugely enjoyable and very cathartic. Looking forward to the next stage of the process – wrestling it into shape.

It was a real privilge to interview last year’s @thebookerprizes winner @paullynchauthor, @edbookfest last night. Hearing him talk about the inspiration for and the process of writing Prophet Song – a quite remarkable book – was fascinating
So terribly sad to hear that the wonderful Edna O’Brien has died. During the pandemic, completely out of the blue, she sent me a signed book with a beautiful letter inside. It meant the world to me. Her passing represents a massive loss – but she leaves behind some of the finest literature of the past few decades. RIP
Running an errand for a friend to Newcastle yesterday resulted in an impromptu invite to see @stephlunch interview the great Ann Cleeves. Ann’s new novel – the latest in the Vera series – deals with issues in the care system, a subject close to my heart
I have a new author to add to my list of favourites. I loved the novel in my earlier post so much that I’m now going to read @claudiapineiroescritora entire @charcopress back catalogue – loving this one so far too
I am a huge fan of publisher @charcopress – they specialise in translated fiction from Latin America and have published some brilliant books. This by @claudiapineiroescritora (translated by @francesriddle11) is up there with the best. I started it last night and am utterly engrossed
