Tillotama Shome Instagram – This morning, the woman who takes care of us and our home, shared the plight of the women and kids where she stays.
Her intolerance for alcohol is born out of the violence she sees daily. Wives are forced to have sex, drunk husbands who can’t differentiate between the wife and the daughter, the daughters who today can look at a smart phone and find out the most effective way to die by poisoning.
“We did not have cell phones to check in our days, the best way to die”

Everyday she gets messages from the school to keep the daughters at home, not let them go out alone and to tell the sons to not rape.

Her words begin to swirl in my head. We both just sit down on the sofa.
Her periods start, early.
Mine just come thrice a year now.
If men don’t change, I am pretty certain women’s bodies will mutate. Our reproductive functions will shut down. A new woman will be forced to evolve out of the folly of men. And who knows how understanding, how tolerant, she will be?
