Yoanna House Instagram – Día de los Muertos, Our Day of the Dead is a vibrant and meaningful celebration in our Mexican culture, where we come together to honor and remember our departed loved ones. This annual observance is recognized as a special week, creating a unique and rich tapestry of customs.
One of the most important elements of Día de los Muertos for me is spending the day in reflective prayer and seeing others create altars “ofrendas,” which serve as a tribute to our beloved who have passed. These altars are often adorned with favorite photographs, mementos, and we enjoy favored foods of our beloved deceased, as well as recounting stories that represent their legacy and personality. If you have the opportunity to travel to Mexico, you will see the traditional vibrant marigolds (cempasúchil) are commonly used in this season.
The holiday begins tomorrow, beginning with the remembrance of the innocent “Día de los Angelitos” leading up to Los Adultos. The atmosphere in Mexico City is one I will never forget. This is a holiday where we reflect on the lives of those who have passed while embracing themes of life, mortality, and the continuation of our souls beyond life on earth.
