Another weekend passes, forever inspired by Japanese culture and yummy “Oishī” sushi. I found similarities between languages, Japanese and Spanish, especially in rhythm and syllable structure. That’s why I opted to take it on at University. Next up, my love for Sushi, which, for me, is a fantastic option for clean eating. Plus, sharing sushi with friends and offers a chance for us to catch up. If you’re looking for recommendations for sushi restaurants, here are my top in my hometown and on the road in Florida. Día de los Muertos, Our Day of the Dead is a vibrant and meaningful celebration in our Mexican culture, where we come together to honor and remember our departed loved ones. This annual observance is recognized as a special week, creating a unique and rich tapestry of customs. One of the most important elements of Día de los Muertos for me is spending the day in reflective prayer and seeing others create altars “ofrendas,” which serve as a tribute to our beloved who have passed. These altars are often adorned with favorite photographs, mementos, and we enjoy favored foods of our beloved deceased, as well as recounting stories that represent their legacy and personality. If you have the opportunity to travel to Mexico, you will see the traditional vibrant marigolds (cempasúchil) are commonly used in this season. The holiday begins tomorrow, beginning with the remembrance of the innocent “Día de los Angelitos” leading up to Los Adultos. The atmosphere in Mexico City is one I will never forget. This is a holiday where we reflect on the lives of those who have passed while embracing themes of life, mortality, and the continuation of our souls beyond life on earth. Por siempre, con energía y recordando mi legado en una herencia que se arraiga profundamente en las raíces de México.

Nearing almost a year ago, I dived headfirst into the world of weightlifting, and let me tell you, it’s opened up a whole new realm of possibilities. After 25 years immersed in the alignment, conditioning, elegance and concentration of Pilates, where I’ve had the incredible opportunities to train all over the world and even with top studios, recognized trainers and Prima ballerinas from American Ballet theater to Juilliard, this transition to weightlifting feels both exhilarating and liberating. Each session feels like a fresh approach to discovering muscles and pushing myself in ways that are challenging yet thrilling. With a concentration on my future goals and my past history, I truly believe in the art of ballerinas, Pilates and weightlifting, a combination of getting a long lean, strong frame. After a long break from personal health challenges and feeling defeated. Now entering a new season, this motivation stems from observing others’ success and scientific findings. The fear of getting too big, muscularly, the scrutiny held me back my goal also to not fall back on being “skinny”. I’ve been waiting for this inspiration for so long. I was in a stagnant state mentally. It’s tough to open up about vulnerability, especially if I fail, but maybe I should at least share my story. Remember there’s always something amazing about to happen if we put in the discipline and the openness to make it happen.

I decided to hit up my old trainer from back in the day, as she’s always been a strong influence on working out. One of the things I really had to wrap my head around was the idea that lifting heavier weights creates a bulky build. I took notes and here’s what I’ve implemented: going from using a series of 3 lb. weights to now 20 lbs. and I love the way I feel and the strength that it gives me, especially as I enter into another season of my life. I can’t wait to share all that I’ve been up to and the endless possibilities for hard work and discipline! Linda Hamilton from The Terminator is my inspiration. Who’s yours?
