When I learned of the opportunity to write a poem for @wickedmovie, I felt so honored, as well as nervous since it’s such an iconic phenomenon beloved by so many around the world. The musical interrogates the forces of good and evil, and more importantly, how we arrive there, and how we can push beyond categorizing “different” as “bad.” As a Black girl, I resonate deeply with the experience of being the Other in a room. But Wicked reminds us at our hearts that the power of connection, friendship, and compassion is the true magic that enables healing upon this earth. I hope you all enjoy my new poem “Do Us Good” inspired by the beautiful film that is Wicked! 💚💖🫧✨ Thank you for welcoming me into Oz @wickedmovie @jonmchu #marcplatt @cynthiaerivo @arianagrande @dlockxo

Behind the scenes at the DNC! What an incredible experience it was to share the stage with so many influential individuals. You were all phenomenal! 💙 #DNC2024
@oprah has supported @amandascgorman through her young career, interviewing her through the power of technology, zooming with her, and talking on the phone. But did you know they had never met in person? It finally happened at the @demconvention when Lady O ran to shower Amanda with love when she got off the stage 💜💜💜
Everyone deserves the chance to fly. ‘Do Us Good’ written by @amandascgorman, inspired by @wickedmovie is out now! 🫧🧹#wickedpartner #wickedmovie #dousgood
When I heard the Met Gala 2024 theme was the Garden of Time, I immediately thought of the role of women, particularly women of color, throughout the expanse of fashion. Across countless images, portraits, and ideations over centuries, especially those in antiquity, Black women are often portrayed as possessions, if portrayed at all. Even on rare occasion when we are presented in high-society adornments, historically it was to place us to the side or foreground of others (for example, David Martin’s 18th century portrait pf Dido Elizabeth Belle, a biracial British gentlewoman, comes to mind). With my look I wanted to place a Black woman in fashion stylings from distant Gilded Age-esque history but reimagined from a place of contemporary sociocultural power. @Prada and my glam team have been dream partners in creating a brocade design that recalls an era of elegance and adornment with a modern twist. I’m so grateful that something such as this could exist on the Met carpet, worn by a young, Black female poet like me. I have no doubt the Garden of Time, the power of women of color in fashion is ever-present, ever-growing, ever-changing, and forever gorgeous.

It was the honor of a lifetime to perform poetry at an inauguration that swore both President Biden and Vice President Harris into office, as they are both outstanding leaders who have dedicated their lives to public service. The miracle that allowed for me, a young, Black girl to be there was the democratic tradition of ushering in a new guard of voices, one that Biden and Harris have exemplified by exchanging the torch without ego, malice, or pride. When we share power without insecurity and stand together as our best selves, there is nothing we can’t accomplish in this country. Let’s go #Harris2024!
🔁Reposted from @unicef: We repeat. A military besiegement and ground incursion in Rafah, Gaza, poses a catastrophic risk to the children sheltering there. Many of the children cramped in Rafah have been displaced multiple times and have lost homes, parents and loved ones. Thousands are injured, malnourished, traumatized or living with disabilities. They must be protected, along with the few remaining basic services and infrastructure they need to survive. For over seven months, we’ve witnessed this tragedy unfolding, resulting in thousands of children killed or injured. UNICEF continues to call for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages and an end to the senseless killing of children.

“I am shocked by the ongoing hostilities in Gaza. In addition to the lives of children already lost, thousands more could die from a lack of essential services, such as healthcare, safety and sanitation. Join me in supporting UNICEF through the link in my bio. Donate and share widely.” – @amandascgorman
