Since 1721, this country has had 57 prime ministers. Shockingly, 20 of them attended Eton College, with 5 of the last 15 PMs since 1955 hailing from the same elite institution. A third of our leaders since 1955 were molded by the same privileged halls.
By 2021, the influence of Eton-educated boys over our public life hit a staggering peak—perhaps even more pervasive than 100 years ago. But what has this legacy of power done for the people of this country? Time and time again, we’ve seen that real, lasting change never comes from a small, insular group clinging to power.
This is why I believe it’s time to close the doors. No Old Etonian should be allowed to sit in the cabinet before 2050. Let’s reset the system. What do you think?
