Carol Vorderman Instagram – One of the critical issues I tackle in my book #NowWhat is how narcissistic behaviors infiltrate not only our personal lives but also the political sphere. Narcissists are drawn to power, and politics is their stage. A common technique they use is DARVO: Deny, Attack, and Reverse the role of Victim and Offender.
Take the disgraceful Partygate scandal, where over 100 police fines were issued—including to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak. The parties happened; everyone involved knew it. But when the truth started surfacing, the DARVO tactic kicked in:
Deny—They lied, over and over again. Johnson even called the reports “deranged” and “absurd.”
Attack—Johnson lashed out, claiming the media and political opponents were out to get him.
Reverse the role of Victim and Offender—Suddenly, in 2023, Johnson portrayed himself as the victim of a “Partygate and Brexit witch hunt,” flipping the narrative completely.
This tactic isn’t just isolated to Partygate—it’s a common thread in politics and life. Narcissists masterfully manipulate the truth, and in doing so, they distort the public’s perception of reality.
In #NowWhat, I dive deep into the psychology behind these tactics and how to recognize when the circle of acceptable behavior has shifted. My advice? When you spot a narcissist in your life, get out—fast.
