Hello Friends, It’s Maggie’s family here. Just writing to let you know that following a fall at her home, she’s unfortunately suffered a couple of minor bone fractures and related injuries. Thankfully Col, her husband, was there and she is now in the excellent hands of her doctors who are confident she will make a full recovery. It may just take a little while. More than anything else, Maggie hates letting people down. But she has multiple events and public engagements coming up that she may have to miss. She has asked us to apologise on her behalf to all those affected – and has asked for your patience as she recuperates. Thank you for your understanding – The Beer Family

This is breakfast on our balcony, We had the most beautiful room at Ricciardelli luxury apartment at the top of the Spanish steps. The view of Rome was magnificent from every window as was the care of Giancarlo whose original home it had been. So many acts of kindness such as coming in early in our last morning to ‘lasso’ a taxi for us so we wouldn’t miss the train as taxis weren’t responding to bookings. #makeitamaggiemoment #rome #italy #maggiebeer

I always have to find the markets and oh how I love tomatoes. Here I couldn’t stop photographing virtual ‘seas’ of them. I stopped to buy just one of each new variety to have back in our balcony. Just a few this weekend Quick Saturday night dinner. Squid I keep in the freezer in small packs because it helps to tenderise. Cooked in about 6 minutes sauteed in some new seasons olive oil, a few of our olives, a dash of Verjuice, coriander from the garden (love in winter as it doesn’t bolt.) Bragging rights the first real crop from my one Yuzu tree that we used for cocktails and dehydrated the powder to add to a dish like this. Such a beautiful day in the Barossa on Saturday and I love picking flowers almost as much as picking vegetables and these Jonquils with a few nasturtium leaves might feel an overpowering scent through the kitchen, but I just love them. The great thing about Jonquils is they just come up in the same position every year without having to do anything to them. How I love my garden
