Nathalie Kelley Instagram – I woke up this morning to an image of a Palestinian baby covered in blood shaking from the trauma of a US made bomb funded with my tax dollars. I stopped posting on this topic because it was not helping the situation and I felt that a better use of my energy was better spent talking to my loved ones on both sides of this conflict. But my thoughts on this have not changed. This needless suffering will only perpetuate more violence. My Jewish friends feel more unsafe than ever, now being unfairly scapegoated for the crazed decisions and actions of a few. @charles_eisenstein has written very thoughtfully on the nuances of a possible peace process for those who are hungering for a new narrative. The link to his full essay is in my bio. It has been a traumatic time for so many of us as we relive violent memories of our own recent colonizer/ settler histories. This is a much more complex version of that story – where the current oppressing force also have their own history of genocide and expulsion. I bow to you if you are able to grieve for “the other side” as you grieve for your own…. Others in my life have deeply disappointed me. People who I once respected embodying the traits of the “monsters” they claim to be fighting against. I am filled with horror as I read their tweets – an unwavering and unapologetic defense of the indefensible. Always putting blame on the “other side” and never once imagining their own sides shared responsibility for this suffering. They have become the fundamentalists they imagine they are fighting – just a different side of the same coin. The antidote is the middle path – the way of peace. The emotional intelligence to feel the pain of the “other.” It is a quality I try to practice daily, but I admit it’s not always easy. Thank you to my friends who have the courage to have difficult conversations without losing faith that another future is possible. Here are some people and movements giving me hope right now: @maozinon @standing.together.english @sharonbrous @charles_eisenstein 🕊️ | Posted on 11/Jul/2024 18:32:34
