I’ve been deep in a creative portal so I never got around to telling everyone that I turned 40 in the most hilarious way possible: fighting a full body allergic reaction, my constant discomfort softened by the presence of my sweetest friends. It was the least glamorous but most deeply nourishing week of my life. Tea, swimming holes, fall foliage, delicious home cooked food topped off by some interpretive dancing to Enigma. I hope the rest of this decade is as full of love, laughter, delight and rest as this week was… minus the hives please! #latelibrabirthday post🐝🌺🍵

Switching out the dusty desert for lush water holes, planting pollinators and dancing samba to the sound of cicadas… clothed of course in artisan made threads by @casa.nushki in which every flower is sewn by hand, like the tiny colourful flowers found in the sierra Norte of Mexico where artisan women gain financial independence with each piece. 🌺 So who wants to join me for Wet Woman – the Catskills alternative to Burning Man where we channel Dirty Dancing but with soil underneath our fingernails and moss beneath our feet? 🐝🌷🌻💃🏽💦
Why do I list my designer fashion investments with OpenClosit? Because I can share them for rent with other likeminded fashion lovers while extending the lifecycle of my quality garments. Why would I keep this beautiful gold Andrea Almeida dress hiding in the back of my closet after I’ve worn it and loved it? Instead, I can rent it for $295 and feel good about the way in which OpenClosit manages every aspect of the rental process. I always have the best time playing dress up in their store or browsing their entire inventory online where I can find a quality designer one-time/wear look for the price of a Zara impulse buy. The future of fashion is circular! Second location in Weho opening next week!
Join @helenanorberghodge and writer/philosopher Bayo Akomolafe and myself on August 19th at 4pm EST for a virtual screening of Helena and @cyrus_sutton’s short film Closer to Home followed by a Q and A. 🔗 in bio. Discovering Helena’s work and message (@localfutures_ ) has been life changing as I now see that the root cause of all our problems – from health, climate, poverty and even the breakdown of our social fabric – is Globalization. When we lived in land based cultures, speaking our diverse languages, developing sophisticated local food systems that promoted biodiversity- our human and planetary health was in much better shape. The move in the last 500 years to destroy these local food systems in favor of monocultures for export, was designed by corporations to make a few people unimaginably wealthy – while people and planet suffer. Reclaiming and restoring our local food systems is imperative to restoring balance on Earth. If you are interested in learning more myself and Helena would love to answer and questions personally. I will leave you with one of her quotes in the meantime: “Globalization is not the product of evolution: It’s the result of policy choices and we can make different ones. Doing so means moving beyond the left -right divide to come together to envision truly democratic, equitable, and localized economic systems.” 🫶🏽
Do you love thriving biodiversity, kayaking with dolphins, geodesic domes and eating organic food grown on site? I finally got to visit my dear friends @_tonycho_ and @ximenacho at the beautiful ChoZen Eco-Retreat & Sanctuary | @livechozen and spent my time there eating delicious meals, observing all the different animals, ecstatic dancing and doing as many cold plunging and sauna sessions as I could fit into a few days. I also met the folks conserving the waterways, lands and soils within the Florida wildlife corridor and they really educated me on the importance of Florida’s local ecosystems and ChoZen’s initiatives to protect these last wild places. ChoZen Farm also partners with Fleet Farming | @fleetfarming for educational volunteer experiences where we learned about regenerative agriculture, the importance of soil health and food security. And wildlife lovers will be thrilled to know thag ChoZen’s support of the Path of the Panther | @pathofthepanther whose aim is to protect critical wildlife habitats – rescued the panther from near extinction. Plus ChoZen Air’s partnership with Wildpath | @wildpath , Carlton Ward Jr | @carltonward and We are Neutral | @weareneutral aims to preserve and restore vital landscapes through immersive storytelling and hyper-localized mangrove restoration. I am so proud of @_tonycho_, @ximenacho and the ChoZen team for stewarding these lands and am counting the days when I can return. ChoZen is truly the jewel in Florida’s crown. #livechozen #natureismedicine #foodismedicine #communityismedicine #floridasafari #natureistheceremony #acampforthehumanityofthefuture *ChoZen sits at the convergence of the headwaters of the St. John’s River, Everglades & the Indian River Lagoon system.
Ok Ontario… I see you! You are much more enjoyable in the summer with friends and flowers and lake time…. 🌻 🏊♀️ I have been living in this beautiful kaftan by @oshadi_collective made from regeneratively farmed cotton.. so chic and appropriate for every occasion. I’ve worn it to the lake, for dinner – even to a conference! I get so many compliments on the print and color… and I know I really love an outfit when it gets worn at least once a week. Then I want to share some love for @bebemoire and her beautiful artisan made merino wool sweaters. Classic and elegant and so soft. I love you @bebemoire 💕 And then shout out to @nagnata_ for fulfilling the yogini raver in me. Her pieces are Pilates, brunch and after-party all in one. 🤩 my time here is coming to an end and so much of it has been in deep solitude… (by choice) but I’m grateful for my sweet and nourishing friendships making my time here that much sweeter. (@blu.th ) Hope to be back in very near future xxxx

I woke up this morning to an image of a Palestinian baby covered in blood shaking from the trauma of a US made bomb funded with my tax dollars. I stopped posting on this topic because it was not helping the situation and I felt that a better use of my energy was better spent talking to my loved ones on both sides of this conflict. But my thoughts on this have not changed. This needless suffering will only perpetuate more violence. My Jewish friends feel more unsafe than ever, now being unfairly scapegoated for the crazed decisions and actions of a few. @charles_eisenstein has written very thoughtfully on the nuances of a possible peace process for those who are hungering for a new narrative. The link to his full essay is in my bio. It has been a traumatic time for so many of us as we relive violent memories of our own recent colonizer/ settler histories. This is a much more complex version of that story – where the current oppressing force also have their own history of genocide and expulsion. I bow to you if you are able to grieve for “the other side” as you grieve for your own…. Others in my life have deeply disappointed me. People who I once respected embodying the traits of the “monsters” they claim to be fighting against. I am filled with horror as I read their tweets – an unwavering and unapologetic defense of the indefensible. Always putting blame on the “other side” and never once imagining their own sides shared responsibility for this suffering. They have become the fundamentalists they imagine they are fighting – just a different side of the same coin. The antidote is the middle path – the way of peace. The emotional intelligence to feel the pain of the “other.” It is a quality I try to practice daily, but I admit it’s not always easy. Thank you to my friends who have the courage to have difficult conversations without losing faith that another future is possible. Here are some people and movements giving me hope right now: @maozinon @standing.together.english @sharonbrous @charles_eisenstein 🕊️
