Christina Pascucci Instagram – Here is my two cents on the bill that would allow illegal immigrants up to $150,000 in loans to purchase a home. Like so many things, lawmakers are trying to treat the symptom rather than the root cause. Addressing the root cause would mean fixing our broken immigration system. That’s where any money we actually have should go. I also think this policy fans flames of frustration among Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. It feels like nobody is looking out for them.
At the same time, the way this law has been portrayed makes immigrant families feel vilified. I am the daughter of an immigrant. Immigrants are often some of the hardest working people who want to become citizens, but often can’t for many years because our system sucks. So the anger should be directed mainly at crap policy in my opinion— policy that encourages people to come illegally because coming legally is actually much harder to do and offers fewer benefits.
Lastly, this law doesn’t even have any money behind it. So it’s mostly smoke and mirrors and thus pandering to voters to get their vote, IMO. The Latino community in particular has told me they feel they’re always pandered to around election time, but forgotten the rest of the year.
