Diana Nyad Instagram – Memories of all the long grueling years of training, plus the five epic tries to swim across from Havana to Key West, came flooding back during our trip to Cuba. Standing on the shore, looking out to the northern horizon, summoned the moment of taking the leap of faith toward that faraway other shore. And also took me way back to age 9, when I stood on the FL shore looking south, when the dream of connecting our two countries first hit me.
I met with hundreds of the elite teenage athletes and Bonnie gave a tennis clinic to their top players.
We were hosted in a reception by our dear friend Commodore Jose Miguel Escrich at our start point, Marina Hemingway, where Bonnie and I visited the pool where we would test all my goggles the night before swimming out.
Cuba my whole life has been a place deep in my heart and we were profoundly touched by this recent opportunity to connect and hopefully inspire the Cuban people.
