We have seen “a catastrophic change in the legal realities” of trans people’s lives, as the ACLU’s Chase Strangio told @sophiabush at @fordfoundation’s Free Future event this year. This #GivingTuesday, we are proud to launch our #GivingTuesdayFund. To honor our commitment to elevated design and positive impact, specifically women’s empowerment and artisan craftsmanship, we are dedicating 20% of today’s revenues to building a workshop for the Mising community of women weavers in the #Pathorichuck village on #Majuli – the world’s largest river island in #Assam, #India. These women, thanks in great part to @maati_community and @xutathethread, create intricate handwoven textiles that reflect their indigenous identity and traditional craftsmanship – a skill that has been passed down for generations. Their beautiful work can be seen by searching “Maati” on our site. Currently, these artisans lack a dedicated workshop and mostly work outdoors, which brings high vulnerability to shifts in the weather, especially the flooding these villages experience during the monsoon season. Having a protected structure where they can work will ensure a safe and productive environment in the future, so they can continue to provide for their families, uplift their community and carry on their traditional craft.
