A few takeaways from the first half of the expedition:
-Mountaineers are masochists. I said what I said.
-If flora and fauna refuse to be in an environment, there’s probably a reason & you don’t belong there.
-The group you climb with is EVERYTHING. They are the magic in the mountain. I’m grateful for this group.
-It’s a particularly hostile type of beauty at altitude. You’ll appreciate it more once out of it.
-The cold and the logistics of warming up are what really get you.
-Gearing up properly will solve 80% of your issues: gracias @lasportivana @mountainhardwear @boss
-We found less plastic than expected! This was great news. The samples still need a full analysis but we were impressed at how rare trash was at higher camps.
-Women have twice the hurdles at altitude so to all the ladies who climb: you’re badass. I barely made 6000m and was already breaking.
-The “Cholita” women mountain climbers describe the journey as being ‘given permission’ by Aconcagua to climb it… I like that version the most.
-The environment is so violent you barely get a chance to contemplate anything… but after descending (the last 3 days) it all came flooding in. Answers & insights. Be patient.
-Baby steps. The mountain demands it all from you physically. Economize you’re energy.
-I’m definitely a sea dweller. High altitude is not for me. Everything hurt. Music kept me going and I’m proud of pushing… but my body is still recovering and craves warmth, oxygen & humidity.
