#Summit2Sea PREP got me ready for what has now become the most physically taxing experience I’ve ever endured. 🏔️ Aconcagua is usually an ascent people do in 2 or 3 weeks, months of training & acclimatization.. we had 7-8 days, with a narrow weather window. I enlisted tons of help (given I tend to gravitate towards 80 degree weather) but I didn’t factor in the potential for getting a stomach bug on the way 🫠. Despite the deficit, and thanks to the team… I embarked on this #Summit2Sea adventure to climb one of the worlds #7Summits and collect samples and document the journey. 1 – The base of the mountain. Food poisoning be damned. Smiles all around. Save for @nelzor and our guides, we had no clue what we would face the coming week. 2 – @cenegenics tests, scans and body prep. 3/4/6 – Hours of @hypoxico altitude training, set up and sleep to aid the rapid ascent and get our lungs/body ready. Kainu struggled the most not being able to jump on the guest bed while I was in it.. but not sure I’d have made the 6000m mark if not for the hours put in here… 5- @bft_studios conditioning and strength training. 7 – @latamairlines crew taking care of me after I fainted and threw up en route to Santiago de Chile 🙈. 8 – Morning of, still sick. Managed to push through and get to base camp thanks to the help of the group. 9 – Base camp – Plaza de Mulas 4300m. The beginning of the “high altitude” camps.. last creature comforts on the mountain.

Low Oxygen ramblings…. 1/375 #Summit2Sea Camp Canada (5000m/16.500ft) carry day. Trying to pretend Im Elsa and the cold isn’t debilitating. This is the night delirium began to set in and I lost most cognitive capacity (yes – video evidence forthcoming).
❄️ #Summit2Sea #Aconcagua A few takeaways from the first half of the expedition: -Mountaineers are masochists. I said what I said. -If flora and fauna refuse to be in an environment, there’s probably a reason & you don’t belong there. -The group you climb with is EVERYTHING. They are the magic in the mountain. I’m grateful for this group. -It’s a particularly hostile type of beauty at altitude. You’ll appreciate it more once out of it. -The cold and the logistics of warming up are what really get you. -Gearing up properly will solve 80% of your issues: gracias @lasportivana @mountainhardwear @boss -We found less plastic than expected! This was great news. The samples still need a full analysis but we were impressed at how rare trash was at higher camps. -Women have twice the hurdles at altitude so to all the ladies who climb: you’re badass. I barely made 6000m and was already breaking. -The “Cholita” women mountain climbers describe the journey as being ‘given permission’ by Aconcagua to climb it… I like that version the most. -The environment is so violent you barely get a chance to contemplate anything… but after descending (the last 3 days) it all came flooding in. Answers & insights. Be patient. -Baby steps. The mountain demands it all from you physically. Economize you’re energy. -I’m definitely a sea dweller. High altitude is not for me. Everything hurt. Music kept me going and I’m proud of pushing… but my body is still recovering and craves warmth, oxygen & humidity. -So happy to have these memories and carry them with me into the 2nd half.

Day 1 – Heading off to the first part of this adventure: Mendoza, Argentina; in order to climb Aconcagua (approx 6900m 🏔️). Being the only woman in the group for summit became less of a deterrent after a while, and perhaps now is more a point of determination. I want my young sister & future daughters to see women on adventures/ expeditions challenging themselves. I want them to see philanthropic efforts that don’t feel downtrodden but like an exciting prospect full of hope. I want them to see support and protection from good men that already excel in these areas (I’m lucky this group is full of “big brother” type wonderful men who encouraged me to join and never once made me feel like I wouldn’t belong). I want them to see collaborations in lieu of competition. This first half of the expedition is full of effort, hardship, discomfort, and (hopefully) accomplishment. We are collecting samples at altitude and later at depth (journeying to the incredible French Polynesia for contrast to highlight incredible spots and women working in remote regions towards our common goal). Additional team experts are joining that portion of the trip so we can all share our knowledge with you. Will post about out prep, progress (🤞) & results as we go. For now: Adios LA.. ✈️. Gracias for the support/being a part of this one way or another: @chriscameron.cc @nani.travels @axventuresinc @alvaronunez @latamairlines @covascott @andremusgrove @ihghotels @tahititourisme @airtahitinui @nelzor @scientexchange @oceana @daynemalan @scottwarnandez @cbstv @jessicalheath @lasportivagram @hypoxico @jmjwetsuits @bft_studios @bft_santamonica @garmin @erichroepke @therealcraigleeson @max_bello
#Summit2Sea strength training is getting intense – tried @bft_studios @bft_santamonica & don’t let the smiles fool you: I still can’t raise my arms to brush my hair. 🤣 So worth it! 💪 … And very helpful if I’m hanging off a cliff at any given point. 🧗♀️🏔️
