🎂 🎉 Birthday celebration started early upon landing on #Marutea island.. Cant think of a better way to celebrate this new year than with salt in my hair, a coconut in hand, connecting with nature and exploring a remote part of Tahiti with an incredible group of humans 💙 Magic sunset courtesy of our hosts @robertwan.officiel @nani.travels 🎥: @andremusgrove & @covascott @chriscameron.cc @k.immean

❄️ #Summit2Sea #Aconcagua A few takeaways from the first half of the expedition: -Mountaineers are masochists. I said what I said. -If flora and fauna refuse to be in an environment, there’s probably a reason & you don’t belong there. -The group you climb with is EVERYTHING. They are the magic in the mountain. I’m grateful for this group. -It’s a particularly hostile type of beauty at altitude. You’ll appreciate it more once out of it. -The cold and the logistics of warming up are what really get you. -Gearing up properly will solve 80% of your issues: gracias @lasportivana @mountainhardwear @boss -We found less plastic than expected! This was great news. The samples still need a full analysis but we were impressed at how rare trash was at higher camps. -Women have twice the hurdles at altitude so to all the ladies who climb: you’re badass. I barely made 6000m and was already breaking. -The “Cholita” women mountain climbers describe the journey as being ‘given permission’ by Aconcagua to climb it… I like that version the most. -The environment is so violent you barely get a chance to contemplate anything… but after descending (the last 3 days) it all came flooding in. Answers & insights. Be patient. -Baby steps. The mountain demands it all from you physically. Economize you’re energy. -I’m definitely a sea dweller. High altitude is not for me. Everything hurt. Music kept me going and I’m proud of pushing… but my body is still recovering and craves warmth, oxygen & humidity. -So happy to have these memories and carry them with me into the 2nd half.

In honor of #ClimateWeek, posting one of the most inspiring & heartwarming days this year with the local community and children of Fakarava, in French Polynesia. On the 2nd half of #Summit2Sea Expedition I brought 3 close friends & ocean heroes – those I believe consistently make the world a better place with their science, attitude and art (@covascott @chriscameron.cc @andremusgrove) – and we partnered with like-minded souls/brands/orgs: @nani.travels @robertwan.officiel @oceana to give back to the community that so lovingly opened its doors. We discussed our favorite marine animals, played charades and drew them, then played my go-to game of giving them names & backstories… and then mobilized. 💪 We took action, geared up with gloves, and went off to do a beach clean-up around the remote island. My goal is simple: to make ‘falling in love’ with the ocean easy, & protecting it feel fun. To come naturally… I believe positive interactions and experiences reinforce the message better that fear or shame. What was even more important to me here, was to learn and listen to the locals and not preach. They know these waters. They rely on them for food, work, trade, and transportation… and so listen we did. We “experts” are the ones walking away with a greater perspective, a greater love and awareness… and hopefully they felt heard, and added some extra tools to their kit – should they wish to implement them – to help protect the environment and still honor their community culture. Thank you to @inapo_cruise @timeri @wan_alex @john_atg_w @swan_habelt and to our wonderful sponsors for this 2nd part of the expedition, including: @jmjwetsuits @boss @tahititourisme @airtahitinui. We will not soon forget this & can’t wait to go back. 💙 Mauruuru
