Sheryl Sandberg Instagram – In the Rio Grande Valley, hope and resilience are ever-present. Over the last few days, my family and I met true heroes. Monica Weisberg-Stewart’s family has lived in the Valley for decades and she and her daughter Jackie (@bisl_sove) are truly dedicated to ensuring that every member of their community has the opportunity not just to survive, but to thrive. Judge Richard Cortez (@judgecortez) told us, “if you find joy in serving and you are always serving, you will always be happy.”
A decade ago, Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (@ccrgv_restoringhumandignity) opened what they thought would be a temporary center to give people in need a place to rest. With the support of volunteers and donations, the community united to build the permanent Humanitarian Respite Center. It provides a safe place for countless men, women, children, and infants to have a warm meal, shower, and change into clean clothing — as well as receive medicine and other supplies. Since 2014, the Center has assisted over 500,000 people – and you can see @sisternormapimentel’s faith and compassion in all they do.
