I sort of disappeared from social media a year and a half ago to focus on growing a little baby. It’s been the most amazing experience of my life. I’m grateful to the incredible MQ team for rolling with the timing of being in my third trimester while filming season 4, and writing such a beautiful and truthful story for Poppy. I would NEVER have imagined Poppy pregnant – but thoroughly enjoyed the hilarity and pathos of taking a woman who had never had a romantic partner or a personal life suddenly thrown in the deep end. I love the idea of Poppy building something (a second skeleton) that’s all her own, for the first time in her life. I also loved getting to be a geeky, awkward, physically absurd woman now also heavily pregnant (talking about myself now, of course). Here’s hoping I’ll be a better mother than Poppy is likely to be! A little pregnancy carousel as a treat: 1. The belly our clever team had to hide for the first half of the season 2. Directing supported by my unborn child, courtesy of @jennisennis 3.A pic @robmcelhenney took of me taking a quick nap in Ian and Poppy’s office (growing a person from scratch is tiring work it turns out) 4. Me remembering something important while watching the solar eclipse 5. A little family about to get bigger 6. Jump scare 7. Magical days 8. Light of my life

Talked with @nytimes about Poppy as a “geeky, gawky enfant terrible” (brilliant words from Leigh-Ann Jackson) and @kristofferpaulsen took these very fun pics. Link in stories. Styled by @lucywarrenstyle in @muse_the_label Make up @ashleighcarpenter Hair @alanajholmes

I’ve been working with @lucywarrenstyle for 5 years now to put together sustainable looks for press. Particularly proud of this one for our @mythicquest @latimes screening. Lucy searched the thrift stores of LA to find this men’s suit which we tailored to fit. Second hand clothing means fewer garments in landfill, fewer resources going in to creating new “fast” fashion, and fewer instances of showing up to the party in the same outfit as someone else. Planning on rewearing this one anytime I mean business.

Directing an episode of @mythicquest was a dream come true. I had so much fun creating this sequence where Poppy and Ian try to work with AI versions of themselves (which meant at times I was literally directing myself in a scene opposite me), putting @hornsbone in a mini horror film in Sue’s basement, working in a cheeky Devil Wears Prada reference for @imanihakim and @jessieennis , navigating the coverage chaos of a conference room storyline including eight characters, and featuring one of my favourite Australian voices @ediecentric with The Lost Horse Saloon over the credits. Forever grateful to my bosses @robmcelhenney and @meganganz for the opportunity, @hornsbone for the hilarious script and maybe most of all to the incredible MQ crew, especially director of photography Marc Carter, 1st AD @amicck and script supervisor @hortonhasaninsta (my coverage guardian angel), for their incredible talent, skill and support which made this collaboration so freaking fun 💕
