I sort of disappeared from social media a year and a half ago to focus on growing a little baby. It’s been the most amazing experience of my life. I’m grateful to the incredible MQ team for rolling with the timing of being in my third trimester while filming season 4, and writing such a beautiful and truthful story for Poppy. I would NEVER have imagined Poppy pregnant – but thoroughly enjoyed the hilarity and pathos of taking a woman who had never had a romantic partner or a personal life suddenly thrown in the deep end. I love the idea of Poppy building something (a second skeleton) that’s all her own, for the first time in her life. I also loved getting to be a geeky, awkward, physically absurd woman now also heavily pregnant (talking about myself now, of course). Here’s hoping I’ll be a better mother than Poppy is likely to be! She had no idea she’d book the job, and get to make four seasons of the kind of TV show she had been binging her whole life, play the most complicated and wonderful character, and meet lifelong friends and mentors who changed her life so profoundly she can’t imagine who she’d be without them. She also had no idea that she was pronouncing “Ian” wrong, and that Poppy would never willingly wear a blazer, and that there was no need to put on the American accent. Goodbye, Mythic Quest. I’m devastated to say farewell, but more than that – so grateful that this dream came true. Thank you to @robmcelhenney and @meganganz for believing in me and showing me the sky was the limit. And the biggest thank you of all to everyone who watched, laughed, and cried with us. Getting to make this show for you has been the greatest honour and I hope if I ever see you out there you’ll say hi! TO THE SHOVEL!!
