Happy heavenly birthday Baba. We’ve been here without you for 12 years and it seems just like yesterday but also like a lifetime ago. The world has changed so much since then. I often think about what you’d make of it all. We had a worldwide pandemic where everyone was locked in their homes for nearly two years, we have cars that drive themselves and AI has allowed people to recreate fake images and voices of people that actually look and sound real. I think part of you would be fascinated and part of you would be petrified. But most of you would be your fun loving, funny, laid back self that would always smile and say in your very thick Greek accent, “Eh, no big deal, calm down, take it easy.” You always had a way of making even the most overwhelming situations feel like everything was gonna be just fine. I try to carry your words with me when I need guidance. I think of what you would tell me to do and I do just that. Even though you’re not here physically, I know you are here with me and our family. I see you in everything still. I hear and see all the signs you send and I love it when you do. It makes me smile from ear to ear and I always say, “Hi dad.” I know you hear me. I love you and miss you so much Baba and wish that I could hug you and hear your big boisterous laugh and see you holding court everywhere we go. But for now, I’ll be thankful and grateful and cherish all the signs you send me from heaven to bring me peace and warm my heart, until we meet again baba. Your memory will be eternal.
