Ring the alarm 🚨the #allyship #diversityandinclusion #privilege framework DOESNT WORK ! The idea that deviating from this might be somehow not black is wild as it all comes from a white liberal academic tradition in the first place. This in and of itself isn’t a problem, but the delusion that these ideas are black in origin is evident of how distorted mainstream/ internet origin understandings of social justice became ! This was never about “placating white people”, it was about wanting to establish something that worked, it was about wanting us to win ! It was about reconnecting with the #blackradicaltradition which was being obscured by an anti racist tradition that was white liberal in its origins although being practiced and defended by many non white people !!!! It was about wanting to transform the world in the opposite direction to the one it’s gone in. The work continues…#fredhampton #rainbowcoalition #blackpanthers #coalition #climatecrisis

For the latest instalment of our Inspired By series, we spent the day with the author, academic and broadcaster Emma Dabiri. Across her three books – ’Don’t Touch My Hair’, ‘What White People Can Do Next’ and ‘Disobedient Bodies’ – Emma has dismantled conventional narratives around race, capitalism and beauty, and invited us to imagine an alternative, more equitable world, where our lives aren’t dictated by society’s rules and expectations. MIISTA Inspired by: Emma Dabiri The full conversation is at the link in bio. 🎥 by Vera Romanova @vera.v.romanova

Dance floors decades apart. These New Puritans album launch party. Corsica Studio Peckham (thank you @joeangular for this v unexpected blast from the past) SOUND ON 🔊 #parttimepunks @nicholas_daley x @highsnobiety @colourfactorylondon Kemistry Storm Metalheadz dunno where ? Complex maybe ? Twice as Nice ? The End? Subterrania ? Cookies and Cream? Hanover Grande (on a Wednesday only please) Who knows ? but deffo my RnB and Garage era. Also never seen that blonde chick before or since, really don’t understand why this pic with her is like one of the only pics I have from these times 😭 Trailer Trash Shoreditch ( Don’t Smoke Kids) Club Hard to Explain Shibuya Tokyo Fuji Rock Festival With Dennis Bovell at a soundsystem in Lewisham few years back ~ Architect of Lovers Rock, writer of the iconic smash hit Silly Games and I think particularly pertinent to this post cos of the range of genres he’s been involved in from making prog rock to dub to producing albums from artists including Saâda Bonaire, IRoy, Bananarama, Fela Kuti, the Slits, Orange Juice and Madness. Also pretty much a life long collab with genius revolutionary dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson ❤️🔥 For the love of sound !!! Last week I went to @nicholas_daley (who I gotta say consistently throws THE BEST parties events ☺️) X @highsnobiety party and cos it was my first time in a club club for agesssssssss, it really got me thinking… for a girl who used to live for the dance floor and who started raving when she was VERY YOUNG 🫣🤣I’ve often thought about how mad it is that clubbing is no longer a core component of my life. I have been into what many might consider a dizzying range of music scenes over the years 🤪 and was working on a play about dance floors and their role in my life awhile back. Will no doubt return to that project one day, but in the meantime a lil snapshot – pix are scant of much of these times cos photography really wasn’t part of the buzz…

OMG @skyarts salon was pure craic !!! Performances were 🔥🔥🔥 company 💯. Florence you were a dream – thank you for a beautiful supremely thoughtful session in a fairytale setting ~ mind blowing to see my research and ideas translated into Italian. I remember when I was doing my BA in African Studies how many people told me that wasn’t a real subject ✌🏽 as I said it’s always so affirming to look out and see natural hair in the audience when I’m talking about Don’t Touch My Hair in particular or Non mi Toccare i Capelli. It was a beautiful event. Thank you ! Seeing this book continue to travel is 🥹 So much new work coming too, can’t wait to share 💜 2025 keep sweeting me pls
