Feeding Delhi NCR is no small feat. The confidence with which people claim culinary expertise often runs inverse to their actual knowledge. Banng, however, is striking a delicate balance—catering to a well-heeled, opinionated audience while staying true to its own identity.
Riyaaz, in true Impresario fashion, has crafted a space that feels like a Nicolas Winding Refn noir dream—a sultry, Bangkok-inspired set that lands somewhere between a Venetian after-party and a Thai boudoir. The drinks are cheeky, the spice level is deliberately provocative, and the mood is undeniable.
And then there’s Garima Arora—a multi-Michelin-starred goddess of modern Indian cuisine—downshifting gears to launch her India debut with a Charmgang-inspired, Isaan- and Chiang Mai-influenced experience that’s as bold as it is approachable.
To paraphrase Robert Frost, there is more to do, but we are in good hands, these are two masters who have the expertise, the will, and the way to Banng our palates in a good way.
What can they do: dial it up a notch or three on the herbaceous index. Bring more of the robustness of Isaan and Chiang Mai. Don’t hold back on risking a section of the menu to teach the audience instead of playing in the safe zone of a cashew chicken. That fish ceviche-esque dish was bold and thundering, we want more of that please.
