I heard the awful news this morning.
It’s almost impossible to believe you’re gone. You were such a big, sparkling wonderful presence wherever you went. Hard to believe I’ll never bump into you again at 3rd and Fairfax. That we’ll never again hang out and have dinner. That I’ll never hear another one of your brilliant anecdotes about some crazed incident with a ridiculously famous actor on a far-flung film set… you know I could just sit and listen for hours. I think everybody who knew you could.
I feel so lucky our paths crossed.
I’ve been reading some of the online elegies and it’s beautiful and bittersweet to see how beloved you were by so many, even though it was never in doubt. It just always seems so unfair that beautiful people like you aren’t around to hear the incredible public outpourings of love that happen after they’ve gone.
Hopefully you’re up there with your bestie Ed chewing the cud and laughing at us all.
Goodbye Luke Spellman, goodbye Uncle Richard. I sure was lucky to get to know both of you.
