These trunk flailing, ear-flapping spells are truly a joy to watch and we feel privileged to be able to bear witness to these fleeing moments that help shape young calves in vital ways. In elephant herds, knowledge is passed on through generations. Where to forage, the sometimes tricky tasks of separating friend from foe, or how to navigate the intricate web of relationships within the herd are all lessons that get passed down through the actions and behaviours of senior members of the herd. Calves gain the knowledge they need to survive in the wild through these shared experiences.⁣
