The Okavango Delta in Botswana is prime leopard habitat: thick with cover, rich with prey, and perfect for stealth. This spotted cat can melt effortlessly into the landscape—unless, of course, it decides to announce itself. A leopard’s vocal repertoire is subtle yet expressive, ranging from snarls and growls to purrs and hisses. But when it really wants to assert its presence, its distinctive, rasping roar carries through the air. Scientists are now using that vocal signature to track individual leopards with remarkable accuracy, identifying the cats by their roars with 93 percent precision. These insights may help conservationists monitor populations, deepening our understanding of these elusive predators and strengthening efforts to protect them. | Posted on 21/Feb/2025 20:27:37
