Obsessed with my person
Happy Birthday, my love. Thank Gd you were born. Best 5,026 days of my life.
I have been reading PJ Library books to my boys since they were born. I don’t remember how I first heard about this magic, but I apparently signed up in my post-partum-ness and was suddenly being sent a world of kids’ books — that’s a world of authors helping me raise my children through their pages — for free. Many of these sigma* books were new to me, but some I’d adored as a child. Some were about what it is to be Jewish, but many were ultimately about universal values, which happen to also be Jewish values, like connecting through traditions and taking care of our communities. My boys have now graduated to PJ Our Way, their program for 9-12 year olds who pick a book each month and it shows up in the mailbox to squeals. I am often on PJ Library’s website for holiday guides, activity ideas, and recipes. I am such a fan that I bought this apron last year. And I’m such a fan that I’m gifting PJ Library book club subscriptions for Hanukkah. I say “gift,” but it’s free; all I have to do is type an address and my friends receive a great Jewish story every month. PJ Library generously sent me a box of happiness for this post and I’m sticking these books in my dudes’ stockings. Because yes, we also celebrate Christmas over here, and yes, PJ Library welcomes all Jewish families, whatever background, knowledge, family make-up, or observance may be. *Hugo told me to use this word, which apparently means “like REALLY good.” Sign up at pjlibrary.org/ginnifer @pjlibrary #PJLibrary #ad #sponsored

On the left is my first copy of ANNE FRANK: THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL. It was featured in a presentation which I requested I give my 5th grade class: “What is a Jew?” (I never dreamed I would still be sharing a version of this presentation today.) On the right is the copy my friend Stephanie gave me. We bought them for each other when we visited the @annefrankhouse_official in Amsterdam while in college. I don’t have words to describe walking through the annex. Now the Anne Frank House is coming to NYC. Opening on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27 2025, at the Center for Jewish History in Union Square, the @annefrank.exhibit is a full-scale recreation of Anne Frank’s Secret Annex. They’re bringing over 100 original artifacts, many never before displayed. I hope you go. I’ll stick the tickets link in my Stories. “Frank wrote about people being ‘truly good at heart’ before meeting people who weren’t. Three weeks after writing those words, she met people who weren’t.” -Dara Horn “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -George Santayana #AnneFrankTheExhibition #AnneFrank #annefranknyc

Additional statistics from the study about CASTING: -95% of actors playing Jews are perceived as white and around half of people cast to play Jews are confirmed to be Jewish. – Jewish women are less likely to be cast to play Jewish parts than Jewish men are. Only 44% of Jewish female character characters are played by confirmed Jews, compared to 65% for men. We are thrilled to have collaborated with @learcenter – one of the most prestigious academic entertainment groups out there – to bring you groundbreaking research on contemporary Jewish representation. Decades of research indicate that how a group is represented on screen affects public opinion. In a time of terrifying rising Jew hatred, having this data gives us the tools we need to advocate to studios for the opportunity to educate their creatives so we can have whole, human and proud Jewish representation. This is almost 20 years of work in the making and we’re so grateful to have a clear plan ahead. Big shoutout to @cindyfkaplan – whose tireless work and insights have been monumental in our work at @jitchollywoodbureau Link to full study in bio #jewishrepresentationmatters
