Joely Richardson Instagram – I first met DameJoan Plowright when I was 16 years old, and my sister Natasha was 18 ( lady dressed as an owl…ageless!). My father had invited Joan and family to join us on holiday in France. It was a magical time, full of mischief and high jinx. Joan was bloody brilliant, and matched my father in all shenanigans . I think we even made an am dram black and white film that maybe Richard Olivier ( her son ) has stored in a box somewhere. Many years later I got to work with Joan professionally on Peter Greenaway’s ‘Drowning by Numbers’, and Disney’s ‘101 Dalmatians’. I loved her: warm , down to earth, and full of knowingness . This week we attended her memorial, and I was blown away by her extraordinary career. Mum said “ she re wrote the landscape for our generation of young actresses”. Her family were her everything.
