What an absolute pleasure it was to spend a day in the wonderful company of one of Australia’s most esteemed chefs Annie Smithers and her divine wife Susan at the magnificent @babbingtonpark before checking out Annie’s restaurant that I’ve only ever heard people rave about @du_fermier in Trentham in Regional Victoria. Annie is a force of nature.. apart from being a celebrated chef, she is a farmer, writer and teacher. And she has met her match in Susan. At Babbington Park, they grow their own vegetables and have a multitude of animals… including Cashmere Goats, miniature Galloway Cattle and Sebastopol geese. Their organic veggie patch had me in raptures, along with their orchard, flower garden and even a chapel where they host ‘Micro Weddings’. Susan does all the flower arranging (check out the incredible displays she made for us, and the restaurant) These two are deeply passionate about their connection to the land, and Du Fermier is where she showcases the very best seasonal produce… served up as comforting French Farmhouse Fare. Annie cooks everything – from the baguettes in the morning to offering a Menu du Jour that features local veggies, along with meats and poultry also from the local precinct.
