On International Women’s Day, with Facebook’s old posts reminders, (sharing throwback pics here) I’m reflecting on my journey and how hard it can be to be a woman – activist & a creative. 👩🎨 A woman with substance, a woman who has an opinion and a voice, a woman who can really speak up for herself and against injustice & oppression around the world. If you don’t take a stand for yourself, you’re considered too soft and taken advantage of; if you stand up for yourself, you are considered rude and arrogant and labeled as ‘hard to work with’ If you are talented, you’re removed from the stage so you don’t take someone else’s limelight. You are considered a threat. If people are liking & praising your work, you trigger someone else’s ego and they become your enemies. Many times, I’ve thought about the solution – what to do? Dim my light? So I can ease other people’s egos around me? So they can be my friends? Or should I keep my head straight, embrace my light, and light up this world with it? Because, as Rumi said, ‘If everything around is darkness, look around; maybe you are the light.’ ✨ So to all the women out there facing this issue, look within yourself & not outside, validate yourself, accept how you are & let everything else go, because you are the light, and please never dim it for anyone. 🙏 Remember, in the end, darkness is also serving a purpose, to show you how worthy you are. Isn’t this so cool 😎 In the end, YOU are all that matters! Alhamdulillah 🫂 Thank Allah for making you the amazing person you are today- it’s truly a blessing. Isn’t it? 📿🧎♀️➡️ Congratulations for surviving & thriving in 2025 despite facing life’s many dangers, threats & challenges. Love you all! 🥰😇😘💕 You rock! 🤘 #naeemabutt #2025 #happyinternationalwomensday 📸 courtesy by @ham7arazaq
