Rachel Riley Instagram – Now the kids are well back to school I wanted to give a shout out to a brilliant initiative I saw at the end of last year, which uses darts to help kids with their maths and numeracy!
In December I went to Ally Pally to see @officialpdc’s Bullseye Maths in action, and I thoroughly recommend it to any teachers or parents who want to get their kids practising in a fun and engaging way!
In one short lesson they covered number bonds, 2 and 3 times tables, addition, subtraction, intro to solving equations/algebra, probably mostly without even realising.
The kids all seemed to be having a great time and getting involved throwing the darts and working out the sums, a couple of girls even managed to hit the bull while they were at it! 🎯🤩

Separate to that but there to support was pro darts player @imthedevonpetersen369 who’s made his own darts based maths resources for kids (my little ones have enjoyed and benefitted the magnetic darts board and number tiles, but older ones would get more out of the additional -x/ challenge packs and app too).
Also great to see @kirk.bevins there supporting – Kirk was my first ever series champion when I started Countdown and he’s now an incredible darts referee (so he really knows his numbers!).
It’s my firm belief that making maths fun and relevant is key to engagement and success in it, other things along these lines are the Premier League Primary Stars football based (free) resources for schools that I helped to develop, the brilliant @national_numeracy charity and their (free) maths challenge, and I also shoved loads of real world fun maths into my new Rachel Riley’s Maths Magic Clever Tonie @tonies_uk (#ad) for 5 year olds.
