I will miss you. You will always be the godfather of this sport. Your accomplishments revolutionized figure skating and skating simply wouldn’t be what it is without you. As a young skater I knew of your legacy but it was your voice that made the biggest impact on me and the skater I would become. I would listen back to every competition and I hung onto your every word. Your critiques were direct and honest and they made me want to work harder to make sure you noticed I had fixed the note. (My layback position was your favorite note) And when you praised me I was filled with pride. Your enthusiasm about my skating instilled confidence in me. Throughout my career you would always be so supportive reminding me I was a Gladiatrix and that I better never lose my moxie. As a commentator you were the best to ever do it and in my mind always will be. Your wit, passion, and honesty made you magic. When I took my own seat as a commentator you were one of the first to reach out. I’ll never forget my chat with you, much like the chats we had when I was a young skater- I felt that I was making you proud and you reminded me once again to never lose my moxie. I hope I continue to make you proud or at least get a chuckle from time to time. As a human you were charismatic, full of biting wit, kindness, had the best boisterous laugh and always had a sparkle in your eye. I felt honored anytime I was in your presence. You were a hero to me and your bunny ears I will miss- to me they were a privilege to get. I keep thinking how special it was when we got all the Olympic Gold Medalists together over the years. How lucky I was to be part of that- a small but mighty group. The next time we all meet, it won’t be the same. But your impact on me remains- even as my world has turned upside down this month, I think I can still hear you telling me that I’m a gladiatrix and to not to lose my moxie. Your impact on the sport I love and the people part of it is legendary just like you.

February 20th A day that changed my life forever. Some quick thoughts…What I did this day I’m proud of- I was able to fight through all the nerves and demons that every athlete faces in that very moment when they know it’s up to them to make the dream happen. One misstep and it’s gone- It’s a lot of pressure to withstand. But that is not what I’m most proud of- I’m proud of all the years leading up to this moment. When nobody was watching, the days that break you and build who you are. I didn’t realize all the lessons this sport was teaching me at the time but these lessons I bring into my life to this day. It’s been a challenging time but I woke up today remembering that the hard moments make you stronger and softer at the same time. As we rebuild and navigate the day to day, I want to remember my younger self – the little girl that signed her autograph “always dream” because she truly believed in the power of following her heart. She knew hard work was part of the deal but beyond that she thought anything was possible. I want that part of me to always stay. I felt so much gratitude as I sat down to commentate this morning- that I get to do what I love and I get to do it with my best friend. AND all these years later and skating is still my first love. How lucky am I? Later as I grabbed Georgie from her crib, I remembered all of the hard work and hard days that went into this very embryo becoming our sweet Georgie. She’s my biggest gold medal. How sweet life is with her! I hope I can remind her about the power of dreaming through out her own life. It makes life that much more magical! Im grateful for February 20th 1998 and even more grateful for February 20th 2025. #figureskating #olympics #olympian
A mix of emotions this week- I love Nationals but I’d be lying if I said I am not grieving, tired and worried. But when I look at this pic I see my genuine smile. And I’m thankful that I had these moments. There is so much to be happy and grateful for – this week I was with my two guys @johnnygweir @terrygannon83 my entire NBC family and my skating family and that felt good. I may not be going “home” today but I am going to @toddkap and that’s all that matters. Dave always has the words – “But I do know one thing- Is where you are is where I belong I do know where you go, is where I want to be” “Home” this past week was with my NBC family and a sport I love. And now Gigi and I go back “home” to Todd.

Happy Birthday Daddy! Very simply I am so grateful that I get to call you my dad. I got so lucky and even luckier to have the example of what love should look like. Let’s cheers with our mutual love of a buttery California Chardonnay! I love you more than you’ll ever know.

We danced to Dave for a good 30 minutes tonight. It was healing for my soul. ❤️🩹 I feel like I need to document this so I remember The Space Between. It really is the perfect title for our life right now. I feel like I’m floating in some alternate universe wondering what this life of limbo will look like or feel like as we rebuild our former life. So many choices I never wanted to make. Too many decisions to make. No routine. I miss the routine the most. I took the daily moments of routine for granted- I never knew they could be snatched away so quickly and completely. It’s not about things. It’s about driving by a familiar street. I never knew when I’d drive by Ralph’s, or park in the usual spot on my street – that was security. It’s about people and a way of life and that is gone..for now. It’s all so disorienting. And I’m grieving it deeply. But simultaneously the silver lining during this time is the connections with the people in my life. I feel SO much gratitude. I don’t know why I cry when a friend gives me a hug or I open a little care package. It’s just an overwhelming feeling of love. People are so kind. In these moments I truly realize what life is about- love and connection and that’s all that matters. These feelings are as strong as all the terrible feelings right now. So in a way there is balance. I will remember this night dancing with Georgie girl in a place not my own but a place of refuge that I will always remember…and that overwhelmingly feeling of emotion to think of the friend who made this moment possible. So it’s all about that balance I guess. Being sad but feeling such gratitude and love at the same time. And on a lighter note. I think Georgie genuinely likes Dave. She kept saying “more more” This is Todd’s worst nightmare to be outnumbered. #dmblover #babydances
Gigi and I have been taking a moment to look at the sun the last two mornings for a good start to our day. This morning Todd walked by and said “this is a good pic” But I guess he decided to take a video instead and it’s my favorite video ever taken. I think she said “I love you” back! Am I going crazy or do you hear it too?! Here comes the sun- I gotta believe every day will be brighter- but at the end of the day, she is all the brightness Todd and I need. She is everything. #georgiegirl #morningsun
March 21st was a special day for me. Winning my world title in Lausanne is a memory I will never forget. I am SO excited to get to Boston next week to watch more champions crowned in the US! 👑 However in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash that took so many of our own, many from the Boston Skating Club, it will be an emotional week. But the skating is a close knit community and we will holding all the victims and their loved ones in our hearts. I hope you all tune into the sport I love so much! Who do you think is taking away the title? Amber?! Ilia?! #Figureskating #olympian #athlete

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get these moments. ✨ For my infertility community tell me do you feel the same way- that in a way you are grateful for the hard journey to baby because NOW you feel you like you have a bit of a secret to the hard days? Like every mom out there, I have moments where I am so bone weary tired and tested to my limits of patience and exhaustion but it kinda feels good? Because you recognize “this “hard” isn’t as nearly as trying as “that hard”? And then seconds later these moments happen and it makes it even sweeter? 🪄✨ #ivf #infertility #rainbowbaby
I can already tell these sunset dances are going to be some of my favorites moments from our “for now” home. Todd and Sully lounging on the grass while Gigi says “Dave dance” and these crazy beautiful sunsets. All the goodness. 🐕👩❤️👨👧☀️🎶💃 #sunsetskies #babydance #familymoment
To all my infertility warriors tag “your women” who currently uplift you on this difficult journey or have helped you get to the side you are on now. I’m grateful for every single one of those women in my life. On International Women’s Day, I’m reminded of the strength found in community—the friends, the nurses, the fellow warriors who held me up during the hardest seasons. Infertility is not just a medical journey; it’s emotional, financial, and deeply personal. On IWD and as a mom to daughter, I am reminded of how I want to model my life for Georgie. To teach her to uplift other women, support them and to always lead with kindness and empathy. The way we interact with the women in our lives is so important. My hope is Georgie comes across women in her own life that treat her with respect, love and genuine support. It will be a journey for her as it is for all of us to weed through and find her true blue women but when she finds them – it will bring her so much joy. Im grateful for mine. That’s why today I also want to support all my fellow warriors who are currently in the trenches of infertility or IVF. I’ve joined @joinsunfish as a Community Education Advisor.
