Jody Watley Instagram – Since today February 2, 2025 is Grammy Awards Sunday, here are a few of my Grammy looks over the years as Best New Artist 1988 winner just the 3rd black artist to win in that category at the time at the 30th ceremony (a fan pointed this significance to me recently).
A multiple nominee, also presenter a couple of times in the 90’s including presenting to Toni Braxton when she won her Best New Artist award in 1994.
I also announced the nominations one year. Music isn’t about awards of course but it’s a memorable experience and honor especially when it’s so unexpected! I’m blessed to continue to create, write, record, produce and release music. I’m proud of the longevity and to inspire others to believe in yourself and keep being you no matter what – that’s the big win. Some people want to see you fail, or to break your spirit and give up on yourself, – always believe in you and keep going. Everlasting.

Jody Watley’s Best New Artist Win is included in the Grammy Museum Walk of Fame in downtown Los Angeles.
GRAMMY WALK OF FAME, which features one commemorative disc for each year of the GRAMMY Awards from 1958 onwards when the Grammy Museum opened. Each disc contains the winners of the big four categories: Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year.
