International Day of Dance. 🪩 Dance has always been my safe place. My forever friend, who has always been there. To hold me, to let me express my joy, sadness – even rage. So much of my early years were defined by dance. The never ending schedule of classes, rehearsals and tours. Never a summer vacation, only summer training and then my summers became auditions, where my heart was held in limbo waiting to know if the end of an intensive would end with and acceptance letter. I’m grateful to have trained first at Simcoe Dance Academy with miss Dorthy. Then Keeping Time, with Miss Sandy. Then I left home for 9th grade to attend @quinteballetschool… Then @esa_dance_department for 10th grade. My dad died that summer… and it took me a min to figure out how to dance, live in the big smoke (Toronto) and be some kind of artist! Shortly after I started my first professional company gig with #CCDT. Donna saw something in my me that allowed me to imagine a career in dance, after a move away from classical ballet. That year I also attended City School on Torontos waterfront, that kind of freedom in learning is what every teenager needs. I took a year to regroup after Roger left. (My dad) did the usual 16, 17 year old searching for my identity and purpose. Growing up! Then I was off to NYC to @theaileyschool It feels good to remember those days. To acknowledge the impact, my everlasting love and honour the dream that I had the pleasure of living out. Dance will always be my first love; home. #internationaldayofdance

Mino-dibishkaan Auntie Mary! 🎂 Love you forever to the moon and back! I love how you and my mama are twins in these pictures… and I even see that I have the same smile and laugh lines. It’s so beautiful to see yourself ageing like your mama and your auntie! 💜 (Auntie Mary is actually my mom’s auntie, my great aunt. Her brother is my grandpa! But we all just call her Auntie Mary!)
