Erika Eleniak Instagram – The Beverly Hillbillies is a 1993 American film based on the television series of the same name, created by Paul Henning. The television series aired for nine seasons on CBS in the United States from 1962 to 1971. The series is about how Jed Clampett, a poor farmer living near a swamp, finds oil on his land and suddenly becomes a millionaire when an oil company buys the right to drill for oil on the family’s land. He and the rest of his family decide to move to Beverly Hills. It becomes an unparalleled culture clash between them and the Beverly Hills residents, which forms the basis of the television series and the feature film. Twenty-two years after the television series was canceled, a biopic was made of the popular series. Penelope Spheeris was then commissioned to direct the film based on a script written by Lawrence Konner, Mark Rosenthal, Jim Fischer and Jim Staahl. The film starred Jim Varney, Diedrich Bader, Dabney Coleman, Erika Eleniak, Cloris Leachman, Rob Schneider, Lea Thompson and Lily Tomlin. Dolly Parton, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Buddy Ebsen (the original Jed Clampett) also appeared in minor roles. Erika Eleniak played the role of Elly May, the daughter of Jed Clampett. She is, just like the TV series Elly May, a beautiful and kind girl who is very much an animal-loving tomboy at heart.
The film, like the TV series, was panned by many critics in the media. Despite the negative reviews, the film did quite well in theaters and grossed $57 million. Although the film received some criticism for its primarily ridiculous plot (weak script despite four writers), several of the actors, such as Jim Varney and Erika Eleniak, received more appreciation for their comedic performances. Rotten Tomatoes wrote that the film wasted talented actors. Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the film a “B ” on a scale of A to F.
