Johanna Griggs Instagram – Tonight on Better Homes and Gardens we meet Bryan and Marija who decided to build their dream house that was the ‘Right Size’ for them. They subdivided their original property which was on a skinny 50m long block and turned to Austin Maynard Architects, whose work they had long admired, to pack whole lot in on a footprint that is just over 130Sqm. Also joining us tonight is Claire Ward from A.M.A who does a wonderful job showing us all the incredible detail and architectural nous they used to achieve everything Bryan and Maria were hoping for. Whilst the home is small, it definitely doesn’t feel that way. It’s light, roomy, has wonderful cross ventilation, fantastic flexibility in its design, and great connectivity through spaces that you can either open up or shut down. Included in the design is a large kitchen and dining area that is able to accomodate 20 plus people for their regular family and friend catch ups, a bathroom on both levels, a concealed laundry and pantry, 2 bedrooms plus an art studio for Maria’s artwork. Bryan is an award winning authority on staircases with 50 years experience in his field. He actually founded ‘Enzie Staircases’ so not surprisingly – a glorious bright yellow spiral staircase in perforated steel takes pride of place in the home. There is so much to love about this very clever design.
