The Huntress is a film based on the Brazilian folktale, The Curupira, commissioned by Leo Kuelbs Collection for “Digital Fairytales” Public art projections on the Manhattan Bridge and on public spaces in Berlin, Athens and Toronto.
In our cinematic retelling, our Huntress is left confused and lost in the forest due to the Forest Protectors enraged cry at her ruthless slaying of the forest creatures. Upon waking from her stupor, she unbraids her braided hair, ( in the folktale, a hunter unknots the surrounding vines to escape the Protectors wrath) and willingly hands over her knives: the cause of so much pain and suffering in the forest. Once the knives are in hand, the Protector stands upright- his more animalistic gestures lost to human ones, and with a profound understanding crossing his expression, he becomes the Hunter, and the Huntress becomes the Protector.

The film is about balance: an exploration of human and animal nature crossing and intertwining . It contemplates the ultimate dichotomy we face, for we are creatures who are equally destroyers and protectors, dangerous and gentle; and ultimately, we see that there is a Huntress and Protector within each one of us.
