Karen Chuang Instagram – March 3, 2025 :: February came and went! I got a haircut, hosted a Super Bowl hang, and sadly couldnโt dance the entire month ๐ ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปNote: PG13 subject matter below ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Last month I completed a cycle of egg freezing which included 12 days of hormone injections and 2 weeks of recovery. My retrieval happened, poetically, on February 14 (Happy Valentineโs Day!). I was cleared to dance March 1 ๐
Fertility preservation, while extremely expensive, is a process that gives me hope for biological children in the future. After learning that fertility and egg quality decline exponentially after age 35, I knew I wanted to do a cycle (or two) of egg freezing. While Iโve never once questioned my path, as I sit just 3 weeks shy of turning 35 I know that being career driven for the last 17 years means Iโve put a lot of other life goals on hold.
The journey was emotionally dynamic and I learned a ton about my fertility and reproductive health. I was so grateful for my doctors at @uclahealth and for resources like the @asawomanpodcast by @nataliecrawfordmd. I was especially grateful to my parents who drove down from the Bay Area to support me throughout the process. From cooking meals to facilitating my final intramuscular trigger injection (in the glute no less!), they were my greatest cheerleaders.
Egg freezing isnโt for everyone, but hopefully by sharing a little piece of my journey it sheds light on a subject matter that I think is important to consider. As women, our biological clocks are an unavoidable reality. Iโve learned that the more information I have about my health and fertility, the better I can make decisions that align with my life goals โฅ๏ธ
