Tagged along with my brother to this special night 🥹 Felt surreal like stepping into the real life set of a movie I’ve watched many times every year. A very humbling, motivating, inspiring experience. I shrieked like I was part of the Anora team whenever they won an award because I watched this movie 3 times in the cinema, once with Mikey’s QnA, (she truly murdered this role she deserves all the flowers💐) and I cheer for the heart of independent filmmaking as Mr. Sean Baker truly represents, and what it means for indie films to be dominating at the Oscars..!!! Sing Sing, A Real Pain, The Brutalist, The Substance, Flow, No Other Land 🤍 As an aspiring filmmaker, you are an inspiration!!! Was truly a testament that filmmaking is really just you telling a story you want to tell with as many or little people involved and as much money as you want/ have. And when you love your craft and dedicate yourself to it, the light shines through in the end no matter what. And yes, LONG LIVE THE CINEMA. As much as this industry will try to capitalize on the ever shortening attention span of our generations to come, I never want us to lose our love of cinema and watching movies on the BIG screen as they were meant to be savored. I also loved the Substance and Sing Sing and wish they had won more things too but they will always be ICONIC films that truly changed something in me. I really want to watch I’m Still Here. Flow, I am so so happy you took home some accolades too, such a beautiful movie. What an intro to Latvia. I am so so so happy and grateful to be on this journey with all these brilliant creative seniors to look up to and be inspired by – and to be in the same room as so many of my idols… seeing Ms Whoopi and Oprah together talking about Color Purple, which was my favorite movie in middle school, was another very precious moment of the evening. Winter times are usually a little tougher for me – shorter days, longer nights, chilliness forcing us to retract and go inwards. Met with unforeseen circumstances and already being a hermit by default, the fine line between hibernating and readying for spring and retracting into a shell of intrusive thoughts and perception of weakened self becomes a precarious one to navigate. But I also cannot deny these are the times that strengthen me, the necessary force of the sealed cocoon that gives the caterpillar its ability to fly. The darker the shadow implies stronger the light right next to it. If you’ve been feeling funky and erratic this winter, know you’re not alone. Even the lone wolf eventually finds its pack. You know who they are. Eclipse season is here.
