This was me probably on a Karwa Chauth, all dressed up—perhaps for poor, unsuspecting baby Peter somewhere in Austria. 😄 I was more dressed up than the newest bride in the Officers Mess during Karwachauth Puja rituals 😂.
My mother indulged my love for dressing up, not by spoiling me, but by teaching me how to make the most of what I had. She gave me access to her sarees, jewels, and makeup whenever I wanted to entertain myself in the afternoons. I would always pretend to be a soldier dressed as a bride—a fitting contradiction for a fauji’s daughter.
Finding this beautiful memory reminded me of everything my late mother instilled in me. As an Army family, we lived on a budget, but there were never any compromises, never any complaints—only gratitude. She could make even a simple outfit from a Haat in Assam look stylish and accomplished.
I miss her so much. Her passing left me with so much more I still wish I could learn from her. But in every moment of creativity, resilience, and grace, I feel her presence guiding me. Forever in my heart, Ma. ❤️
