#mothersday | Happy Mother’s Day to a Valiant Army Wife—My Late Mother, Meeta Jaitly ( Psy.D ) (Women of #kumaon Regiment) Before she was our mother, she was a soldier’s daughter and a proud army wife. Despite the relentless demands of army life and my father’s countless field postings as an infantry officer, she pursued her academic dreams with unwavering determination earning not just a doctorate in psychology but also two master’s degrees. And yet, she chose a life of sacrifice over personal ambition, setting aside a flourishing career to become a humble schoolteacher. Not out of compulsion, but out of love for her family, her soldier husband, and a greater calling of service. A stunning beauty who spent most of her youth waiting valiantly for a husband who belonged more to his uniform than to his home. As a commanding officer’s wife, she stood tall through long absences, silent worries, and the heavy burden of unspoken goodbyes. She became a pillar of strength for the regiment, inspiring countless soldiers’ wives to pursue higher education and reminding them that their courage and intellect were forces equal to any battlefield. The bravery of an army wife is not measured by medals or parades, but by the silent wars she fights in the shadows holding families together, hearts strong, and hope alive. With unmatched resilience, she raised us with dignity and grace on a soldier’s meagre salary in the 80s and 90s proving that the richest upbringing isn’t of material wealth, but one built on love, character, and unshakable values. The contribution of every soldier’s wife to our nation must never go unnoticed or uncelebrated. Even a soldier needs the unshakable foundation of a love so steadfast, it teaches him how to lay down his life for his country without hesitation. Today, I bow my head in eternal gratitude to my mother, Meeta Jaitly a woman of rare brilliance, breathtaking beauty, and a spirit that neither life’s hardships nor time itself could ever break. You remain the heartbeat of every value we hold dear. Happy Mother’s Day, Maa… #celinajaitly #armywife
#pitrupaksha : He Asked Me To Chant His Regiment’s War Cry After Death… Offering Tarpan To My Soldier Father Today, at the end of Pitru Paksha, I offer Tarpan to my beloved father, a soldier of the Kumaon Regiment. He once told me, “When I die, you must chant the war cry of my regiment whenever you think of me.” So today I raise my voice, with all my heart: KALIKA MATA KI JAI! The cry of the Maneating tigers of the #kumaonregiment I hope my offerings reach you, my beloved father. I hope you are with your cherished comrades, wherever you are. You never asked for anything in life, your most valuable possessions were your uniform, your honour & your family. May today, both you & Ma accept my humble prayers, & may Devi carry perhaps a bit of you both to me. For on Mahalaya, Goddess Durga begins her journey from Mount Kailash to her maternal home on earth. Ami dariye aachi tomader jonno, etokhon kotha baki ache. (I stand here for you both, with so much left unsaid.) I should have hugged you tighter & longer the last time I saw you… I am sorry. Aabaar daakchi tumake baba .. Maa Aasche… tumi o shonge aasho … tumi o shongey aasho. #durgapujo From Bankura To My Heart, How My Mother’s Swarnachari Became My Source of Courage As #bodhon takes place when your face is unveiled, I will find you again appearing in my life as if you never left, as if the teacup is still warm & you left to get some mishti. Maa ami tumader jonney ek borsho thikey dariye aachi… etokhun golpo acchey. Sometimes I find myself standing in a world that feels like it has been built to break me, trying to hold on all alone in a foreign land where nothing feels like home anymore. But with Shashthi I realise that no matter where I am everything is made from the dust beneath your divine feet decorated with alta & adorned with payel. Home is always when you come, home is always when I hear the rustle of your saree, smell the perfume of the dhuna that follows you & the jasmine in your hair. This #shashti I draped a Swarnachari #baluchari saree gold & ivory adorned with woven tales of Krishna Leela. It was bought by my late beloved mother from #bankura when I turned 18 years old. I do not understand kāno pori noi why I never wore it until today. It was meant for me a blessing from my mother who collected sarees with so much love since I turned 16 on her Fauji husband’s salary & her own modest teacher’s salary so that I would shine on festivals so that I would always find her love woven around me. To find the strength for śṛṅgār & to adorn myself in my late mother’s gift feels like a personal victory over unbearable pain life sometimes puts you through. Through this I realise that offering my obeisance to Maa has shown me I can overcome anything. So can you, for Maa always blesses, always protects. This is a Shashthi of many personal victories & a lot of pain to navigate. Yet today I stand wrapped in my mother’s blessing whispering to you Maa bring back the warmth of home bring back the strength of my ancestors bring back the hope that rises with your arrival. Bring it back not just to me but to anyone reading my prayers to you, anyone navigating circumstances that feel treacherous. Maa ami tomake pranam kori shokti roopini Maa shob kichhu’r majhe tumi aacho… #festivalsofindia #pujo #swarnachari #saree #celinajaitly

#missindia #anniversary | 24 years ago I began as just a mere name with a number—Contestant Number 11, CELINA. This sash transformed into Miss India, then Miss Universe Runners-Up, actor, activist, and so much more. Looking back at 27th January 2001, my life truly changed. When I came for Miss India, I had borrowed ₹15,000 from my mother to pay the contestant deposit for training. I was hesitant, unsure if I should even pursue this dream because I didn’t have the additional ₹10,000 needed for portfolios & extra for the outfits. But fate intervened. My dear friend Pepsi—now celebrated globally as the fashion maestro Sabyasachi—stepped in to design all my outfits. Thanks to his genius, I won Best Fusion Costume, which also became a defining moment for him, earning him a debut at the Times of India Bridal Show and firmly establishing both of us in our respective fields. I also secured titles like Miss Beautiful Skin, India Times Surfer’s Choice Award, and MTV’s Most Wanted. At 5’6”, I was conscious of my height and battling the aftermath of severe teenage acne. With every resource drained and my father’s strict instructions to return to academics post-pageant, I stepped into the competition not knowing what awaited me. But Miss India turned my life around. Contestant number 11 went on to win Runners Up for India at @missuniverse , become an actor, a brand ambassador for renowned names, and, most importantly, a UN Equality Champion. Over two decades of activism for LGBTQ equality have tied me to the right side of history, and for that, I am so thankful. Remember this: Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve. #saptami From Bankura With Love, The Story Behind My Swarnachari Saree So many of you asked me yesterday to post a full photo from yesterday’s post of my #swarnachari baluchari saree, so many asked what is a swarnachari So here is another photo, this is where most of the saree is showing in, Maa bought this from Bankura WB when I turned 18, she bought two swarnachari, one ivory & gold, one black & gold As I said yesterday in my post, I never wore this #saree when Maa was alive, I hope having worn it on #sharodiya made her happy wherever she is I still remember asking Maa why she didn’t buy one for herself, she smiled & said it gave her more pleasure buying for her daughter than herself, the Krishna leela was her favourite on the pallu, she wanted me to have a love like Radha & Krishna had, & all this makes so much more sense to me now. On a fauji husband’s & a teacher’s meager but most honourable income in the 90’s she always collected the best for her daughter, like most of our moms do I know, that is the unmatched legacy of Indian mothers Funnily with these two sarees she also bought two Bankura horses, a stunning terracotta speciality of Bankura, they now adorn my parents’ empty home, standing guard as a symbol of their love. Bankura itself is a treasure, known for its terracotta temples, #baluchari weaving & the iconic Bankura horse, it is one of Bengal’s richest heritage districts, I urge you to look it up & discover what this land has to offer Dressing for #pujo even with nowhere to go & no one to meet in Austria is a great reminder to me of the love that went into my upbringing in a #fauji household, saree by saree, one #bankura memoir at a time. #navratri : Navratri Day 2 in My Mother’s Saree… The Saree I Took After Her Death, A Moment That Changed Everything Day 2 of Navratri celebrates Maa Brahmacharini, the embodiment of love, loyalty & wisdom. She signifies penance, perseverance & spiritual strength, reminding us that true devotion means walking with courage even through the toughest paths. The colour of the day is Red, symbolising power, passion & determination. Today, I chose to wear my late mother, Dr. (Psy) Meeta Jaitly’s red saree… to channel her love & blessings to Maa Brahmacharini. This saree was once gifted by me to my mother, & she wore it with such pride. Often she would get different blouses designed for this same saree, yet always came back to it. I laughingly told her, “Maa, why are you not wearing the other sarees you bought?” She would just smile & say, “Red is my favourite.” It was on her death bed, in the delirium of cancer medication, that she told me this is the saree she wants to wear when she next meets my fauji father, who had just passed away a few months earlier. She said she wanted to wear it for the Dining Out, the Army’s way of bidding farewell to an officer with honour, pride & dignity when he gets posted out from one #fauji base to another. My mother wished to meet my father again as though she was attending his final Dining Out, dressed in her favourite red saree. After her death, when I first visited her home, the only things I took were her few sarees that she treasured deeply. It took me a lot to wear this, but today I needed her close to me more than ever. I am so glad I did. If I could say something to Maa today I would say : Maa tumaar shaari pore dariye aachi, ektu ama ke dekhte aasho… #happynavratri🙏 #navratriday2 #navratrivibes❤️ #redsaree #festivalsofindia #motherslove #maabrhmacharini #durga #celina #celinajaitly #celinajaitley #saree #festivesarees #pujo #pujovibes #bengali

#expatwoman | इंग्लिश बाबू देसी मेम : 14 years overseas travelling back to #aamchimumbai only for work…It’s hilarious how many fellow desis go on a four-day holiday and return with a full-blown accent—like they spent years at Oxford or chilling in New York. Meanwhile, despite being an expat woman for the last 14 years in Singapore, Dubai, and Europe, my English accent still hasn’t changed! In fact, speaking German as my first language in Austria has only made my English worse. Now, coming back to Mumbai, I hear my friends sounding like English news broadcasters, and I can’t help but wonder—where did I go wrong? Clearly, my ascent to a fancy accent didn’t go well… instead, I just tripped over grammar and landed in the land of What-did-you-just-say? #desigirl #desithings #brownpeopleproblems #expatlife #celinajaitly #celinajaitley #bollywood #funnyshit
#mominheaven | I cannot get over how much I loved dressing up as a little girl. This was me probably on a Karwa Chauth, all dressed up—perhaps for poor, unsuspecting baby Peter somewhere in Austria. 😄 I was more dressed up than the newest bride in the Officers Mess during Karwachauth Puja rituals 😂. My mother indulged my love for dressing up, not by spoiling me, but by teaching me how to make the most of what I had. She gave me access to her sarees, jewels, and makeup whenever I wanted to entertain myself in the afternoons. I would always pretend to be a soldier dressed as a bride—a fitting contradiction for a fauji’s daughter. Finding this beautiful memory reminded me of everything my late mother instilled in me. As an Army family, we lived on a budget, but there were never any compromises, never any complaints—only gratitude. She could make even a simple outfit from a Haat in Assam look stylish and accomplished. I miss her so much. Her passing left me with so much more I still wish I could learn from her. But in every moment of creativity, resilience, and grace, I feel her presence guiding me. Forever in my heart, Ma. ❤️ #missyoumom #mymom #childhoodmemories #celinajaitly #celinajaitley #faujifamily
✨MISS INDIA UNIVERSE ANNIVERSARY – THE ANSWER THAT WON THE CROWN✨ I fumbled at first, was torn between giving a pageant-perfect answer or staying true to myself and my beliefs. In the end, I chose authenticity—and I’m so glad I did. Staying true to who you are will always be the right choice. There’s no wrong time to make the right decision. Your legacy is being written by yourself. Make the right choice. You are only one decision from a totally different life. #celinajaitly #missindia #missuniverse #missdiva #missindiafit #indianactor #bhim #winningmindset #reelitfeelit #trendingreels #viralreels
#republicday | INDIA AT MISS UNIVERSE – (RUNNERS UP MISS UNIVERSE ) One of my greatest honors has been the privilege of representing my country. Wearing India’s name close to my heart at the Miss Universe pageant and placing as a runner-up was a moment of immense pride—one that I will cherish forever. Coming from four generations of armed forces families, as the daughter and granddaughter of war veterans, patriotism truly runs in my veins. If someone were to check my blood type, I’d like to think it would come back positively orange, green, and white! Happy Republic Day to you all. This day reminds us of the strength of our Constitution, the sacrifices of those who built this nation, and the freedom we enjoy every day. Let’s celebrate the values of unity, democracy, and diversity that make our country so incredible.
