Sometimes I find myself standing in a world that feels like it has been built to break me, trying to hold on all alone in a foreign land where nothing feels like home anymore. But with Shashthi I realise that no matter where I am everything is made from the dust beneath your divine feet decorated with alta & adorned with payel.
Home is always when you come, home is always when I hear the rustle of your saree, smell the perfume of the dhuna that follows you & the jasmine in your hair.
This #shashti I draped a Swarnachari #baluchari saree gold & ivory adorned with woven tales of Krishna Leela. It was bought by my late beloved mother from #bankura when I turned 18 years old. I do not understand kāno pori noi why I never wore it until today.
It was meant for me a blessing from my mother who collected sarees with so much love since I turned 16 on her Fauji husband’s salary & her own modest teacher’s salary so that I would shine on festivals so that I would always find her love woven around me.
To find the strength for śṛṅgār & to adorn myself in my late mother’s gift feels like a personal victory over unbearable pain life sometimes puts you through.
Through this I realise that offering my obeisance to Maa has shown me I can overcome anything. So can you, for Maa always blesses, always protects.
This is a Shashthi of many personal victories & a lot of pain to navigate. Yet today I stand wrapped in my mother’s blessing whispering to you Maa bring back the warmth of home bring back the strength of my ancestors bring back the hope that rises with your arrival. Bring it back not just to me but to anyone reading my prayers to you, anyone navigating circumstances that feel treacherous.
