So many of you asked me yesterday to post a full photo from yesterday’s post of my #swarnachari baluchari saree, so many asked what is a swarnachari
So here is another photo, this is where most of the saree is showing in, Maa bought this from Bankura WB when I turned 18, she bought two swarnachari, one ivory & gold, one black & gold
As I said yesterday in my post, I never wore this #saree when Maa was alive, I hope having worn it on #sharodiya made her happy wherever she is
I still remember asking Maa why she didn’t buy one for herself, she smiled & said it gave her more pleasure buying for her daughter than herself, the Krishna leela was her favourite on the pallu, she wanted me to have a love like Radha & Krishna had, & all this makes so much more sense to me now.
On a fauji husband’s & a teacher’s meager but most honourable income in the 90’s she always collected the best for her daughter, like most of our moms do I know, that is the unmatched legacy of Indian mothers
Funnily with these two sarees she also bought two Bankura horses, a stunning terracotta speciality of Bankura, they now adorn my parents’ empty home, standing guard as a symbol of their love.
Bankura itself is a treasure, known for its terracotta temples, #baluchari weaving & the iconic Bankura horse, it is one of Bengal’s richest heritage districts, I urge you to look it up & discover what this land has to offer
Dressing for #pujo even with nowhere to go & no one to meet in Austria is a great reminder to me of the love that went into my upbringing in a #fauji household, saree by saree, one #bankura memoir at a time.
