As baby Arthur’s birthday approaches on the 10th of September many different emotions overwhelm me as I remember all that we’ve been through… All that could have been …. We lost Arthur’s twin Shamsher to a hypo plastic heart and this is something that is very difficult to fathom even after 6 years. HAPPY #lgbtq🌈 INDIA INDEPENDENCE DAY: On September 6th 2018 a five-judge Bench unanimously struck down Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, to the extent that it criminalised same-sex relations between consenting adults. One of the biggest blessings of my life has been the ability to use my blessed and privileged platform to stand up for LGBTQIA equality which has been very close to my heart. I jumped as a straight ally into the movement over two decades ago and have been a part of historical highs and lows of the Lgbtqia community. From demonstration on streets of Mumbai, to threats to my life, to walking the pride hand in hand at PRIDE MUMBAI a time when section 377 which criminalises same sex relationships was in place, a time when there was no recognition of third gender by the law, at a time when one had to really have courage and take massive risks professionally and personally to stand up or speak out. I am so proud to have been a part of this historical journey of equality, so happy for the lgbtqia community in India with archaic laws gone. I pledge to continue to strive for marriage and right to family equality, there is lots to overcome with Trans laws, education and protection laws.
