Today, at the end of Pitru Paksha, I offer Tarpan to my beloved father, a soldier of the Kumaon Regiment.
He once told me, “When I die, you must chant the war cry of my regiment whenever you think of me.”
So today I raise my voice, with all my heart:
KALIKA MATA KI JAI!

I hope my offerings reach you, my beloved father. I hope you are with your cherished comrades, wherever you are.
You never asked for anything in life, your most valuable possessions were your uniform, your honour & your family.
May today, both you & Ma accept my humble prayers, & may Devi carry perhaps a bit of you both to me. For on Mahalaya, Goddess Durga begins her journey from Mount Kailash to her maternal home on earth.
Ami dariye aachi tomader jonno, etokhon kotha baki ache.

I should have hugged you tighter & longer the last time I saw you… I am sorry.
