Today my students and I met Retal from Gaza. Retal is a 12 years old girl who is displaced from her home since October 9th 2023. She lives with her 5 other siblings who are very young. Retal tells the story of how she no longer goes to school as her school was bombed and how limited food is for her whole family. The kids talked about their favourite colours, food, hobbies and ambitions.
Then, as Retal shows around her tent, my students shed tears as they realised how grateful they should’ve been about the life that they have right now.
‘What can we do to help you?’ One of my students asked.
And her answer is simple, ‘Tell our story to the world’.
