Melanie Lynskey Instagram – Every day when Jason comes home, these cats, who I’m believing more and more are tiny furry sociopaths who don’t care about anything, rush to the door to greet him. They climb up his body and circle around his legs and miaow desperately to try to explain to him how they’ve been shooed off the furniture over and over by their evil mother as they were innocently scratching it to shreds. They missed him. Then our sweet daughter runs to him, and throws her arms and legs around him, and needs him to know every thing that happened in her day, good and bad, and look what I drew, and here’s my favourite stuffy of the day, and my knee got hurt, and I missed you. And then he comes into the kitchen to give me a kiss and hears all about the million ways I’m stressed out and stretched thin and exhausted and did I do something wrong or is it the other person? What should I do about this choice I was supposed to make yesterday? Can you believe these cats still have Giardia? And I missed you. He is patient, loving, hearing all of it. Giving us his whole heart, his sweet face turned to us listening, frowning or smiling , we are allowed all of him. We make fun of him for being addicted to his phone but the truth is, this man is the most attentive and present person when you ask him to be. None of us have ever felt so seen or so loved. My only fear for my daughter’s romantic future is that no one she meets will live up to the example she’s been given in her dad. How can any person be this full of love? I hope she finds them and I hope they exist. For now, I know I am the luckiest woman alive, and she is the luckiest kid because she is getting to be raised by this man.
