Each year on September 11th, grieving families and loved ones come together on the sacred grounds of the 9/11 Memorial plaza for a deeply moving ceremony. With profound love and remembrance, they honor each precious life lost by speaking aloud the names of the 2,983 beloved souls—fathers, mothers, children, brothers, sisters, friends, and colleagues—whose lives were tragically cut short on that devastating day in 2001. Today, we continue to stand in solemn remembrance of the thousands of innocent lives lost and honor the heroism of the first responders who answered the call to danger.

We know Medicaid saves lives. Approximately 21,000 Virgin Islanders rely on this critical program for their healthcare needs. Republicans are pushing a nearly $1 trillion Medicaid cut that will force Virgin Islanders and millions of Americans into a place of no access to health care. I am fighting back to save Medicaid and protect the most vulnerable among us.
I was pleased to welcome Senate President Milton Potter and Senators Novelle Francis, Marvin Blyden and Kurt Vialet, along with GERS Administrator Angel Dawson and Chairman Dwane Callwood to Washington this week! We had the opportunity to engage with Ways and Means Committee Members and their staff on the unique tax and revenue issues of the U.S. Virgin Islands. I would like to thank both my Democratic and Republican colleagues for taking the time to hear firsthand about the impacts of federal policy decisions on our community. I also would like to express my gratitude to the Members of the 36th Legislature and the GERS Administrator and Chairman who joined me and my team in Washington, to collectively advocate for policies that will advance the Virgin Islands. I look forward to our continued collaboration on this matter.
