CA Palak Rathi Instagram – Buying silver for the wedding season?
If you’re planning to purchase silver jewellery, chains, glasses or thalis, make sure to check if the silver is hallmarked. Hallmarking is the government’s certification that the silver you buy is genuine.
Just like gold, hallmarked silver carries 3 key identifiers:
•BIS logo – the official government mark
•Purity grade – shows how much pure silver the item contains (e.g., ‘925’ means 92.5% silver)
•HUID code – a unique 6-digit alphanumeric code that can be verified on the BIS Care App for purity, jeweller details and hallmarking centre
Although not compulsory yet, from 1st September 2025 any jeweller who opts for hallmarking must follow this 3-mark standard. Reputed jewellers are expected to adopt it as it adds trust and credibility.
Share this with your family before the wedding shopping begins.
