Dawn McCoy Instagram – We were told Waylon might not live past the age of 5 when his brain was permanently damaged by child abuse as a newborn by someone he should have been able to trust.
This past Friday, at age 5…
He won the Citizenship Award at school.🎉
Uncle Cheese and I were there cheering loudly as Waylon hit the tray of his stander repeatedly with his left hand. His version of clapping and expressing excitement.
He knew he was a winner. 🏆
But then again, he always does.
While Waylon can’t walk, speak or see, he is in a LAUSD public school with wonderful inclusive support, a motivated, inclusive teacher who works hard to include Waylon in all activities, and Waylon receives in-school physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, vision therapy and support from the most precious friends who love on him each day. 🥰
And at home?
My mom has always said, “Waylon lives in a love bubble.”
And he does.
Between my nonstop kisses and cuddles, we have assembled a loving team of caregivers who always put Waylon’s needs first.
Waylon has not heard an angry word since he was hurt at 6 weeks old.
Only love.
Some folks say that’s why Waylon is so well adjusted – because all of the love.
I say that it’s just the magic of Waylon. ✨
